About Laptops

When laptops were first released onto the market they were slow, heavy and very expensive and limited to a very limited number of users. As technology has advanced both the speeds and the cost of these laptops has improved a vast amount. Laptops have now become a direct replacement for desktop systems with very little separating the two both in cost and spec and the only real difference is the more limited upgradeability of laptops. Whilst laptops where once much more expensive than desktops there is now a great range of cheap laptop deals available in the UK.

Laptop Benefits

Now that technology has advanced to a point where laptops are both affordable and easy to use for most of the UK's population there are a huge list of benefits for using laptops. The most obvious benefit of laptops is portability and as peoples lifestyles change the need for access to a computer and often the internet from a variety of locations has become increasingly important for both business and general use. Another great advantage is size and the fact that laptops can be used in many locations where the use of a desktop PC is not viable or where space is an issue. The addition of mobile broadband has also made laptops incredibly popular as they can now gain access to the internet at broadband speeds whilst on the move and make it an invaluable tool for business users and regular users alike.

The difference in the price between laptops and desktops is now fairly margin at the low end and at the high-end the small extra price for laptops will offer users the added bonus of being completely portable. In addition to this there are now some great cheap laptops deals available with some of the best laptops brands around including free mobile phones, free broadband and free mobile broadband.

Finding the best laptop deal to suit your needs

There are a range of different types of laptops currently available that will suit the needs of any user ranging from very cheap laptops and the basic yet tiny netbooks to the powerful high spec laptops. The best way to find the best laptop for you is to work out what you require and then decide how much you want to pay for the laptop. Then compare laptops to find best spec or cheapest laptop that meets these requirements. Laptops are split into different categories to make choosing easier and they are netbooks, entry-level laptops, mid-range laptops and high-level laptops. Laptops are now becoming more of a fashion accessory with a wide range of colours available and pink laptops proving very popular at present!

The netbook is an entry level laptop that is very small and compact but has quite limited usage due to its low specification. Netbooks are classed as mini laptops and are often bundled with low price mobile broadband deals where internet access and size are the only consideration.

The remaining laptops can be compared in three tiers: Entry level laptops are basic low cost laptops that can be used by those looking for nothing more than internet access and the use of basic applications like Microsoft Office. Mid-range laptops offer all the facilities of the entry level but allows for games and basic multimedia access to be used at a slightly higher price. The high-end laptops can be used for almost anything from high quality gaming, full multimedia tools including video edited but this often carries a high price tag.

The new technologies available with laptops

Recent additions to laptops have included built in wireless access to allow for internet to be used in any of the constantly increasing locations with wireless hotspots or even through a wireless router in the home. Bluetooth access offers wireless communication between mobile devices such as PDA and mobile phones allowing for easier transfer of data like pictures, music and even movies between the laptop and the mobile device. And the latest laptops will now begin shipping with built in mobile broadband access which will do away with the need for USB modem sticks or PC-Card modems to allow for access to the internet using mobile broadband.

All of these new advancements are designed to enhance the portability of laptops and enable them to offer even more functionality to the user without the need for additional items to be plugged in. The biggest problem with laptops used to be that to get the most out of a laptop the purchase of other equipment was required and this would mean additional costs. Laptops are now designed to offer users the ability to have their requirements met straight out of the box and also the integration of these devices means that managing internet access or communication with other devices is made easier with all the software needed to control them already installed on the laptop.

Lack of upgradeability for laptops has always been the biggest concern for most users considering the purchase of laptop so the integration of devices into laptops it's a great idea for manufacturers as it give users the peace of mind that they will have everything they need to get going as soon as they turn their laptop on.

Political debate causes surge in online traffic

May 5th, 2010 by Jo Wilkes

One UK broadband provider has stated that the recent leaders’ debate that was aired in the run up to the election caused a surge in online traffic as consumers made use of their Internet services to see what the three party leaders had to say.

In the run up to the election, which is due to take place this week, the three party leaders, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, and of course Prime Minister Gordon Brown, have been doing all they can to secure the support of voters. In an unprecedented move the leaders have even taken part in live televised debates over the past few weeks, enabling consumers to learn more about their views on a variety of important issues.

Viewing figures for these debates have shown that they have proven very popular amongst consumers who want to learn more about what the party leaders have to say about a variety of issues, and the popularity of the debates has been reflected not only in television viewing figures but also in the increase in online traffic that has been seen during these all important debates.

One Internet Service Provider, Eclipse, has stated that the latest leaders’ debate caused a surge in online traffic as consumers used their internet services to see what the leaders had to say in the debate. Many consumers visited streaming sites during the final debate, which took place last week, with Eclipse reporting a rise of one hundred and eighteen percent to such sites.

An official from Eclipse said: “It was interesting to see that with the final debate focusing mainly on economic issues, online traffic was at its highest point than at any time previously across the three weeks.”

Fibre based broadband packages launched by Eclipse

April 22nd, 2010 by Rob Webber

Business broadband provider Eclipse Broadband has launched fibre based broadband packages to provide customers with higher speed broadband services at great value prices.

Being able to offer high speed internet services coupled with value for money in terms of price is something that most Internet providers are aiming to do, as the competition in the broadband sector has increased and each provider is keen to stay one step ahead of rival providers. This has seen a number of ISPs launch a range of low cost relatively high speed broadband services catering for casual internet users as well as business users.

According to a recent report the business broadband provider Eclipse Broadband has now launched a number of fibre based broadband packages, which offer impressive speeds. The broadband provider has revealed that it has taken its first steps into the world of fibre based broadband, and has launched a range of new packages that are based around this technology.

Two packages are being released by Eclipse Broadband, with one costing just under forty pounds a month and the other costing just under fifty pounds a month. The packages offer a generous download limit in peak hours, and an unlimited service during off peak hours. They also offer speeds of up to 40Mbps. According to reports the prices of these packages from Eclipse are highly competitive.

Customers that decide to sign up for one of these two fibre based broadband packages, which are called Eclipse Fibre (the cheaper package) and Eclipse Fibre Pro (the more expensive package) can also save more money by signing up before the start of May. Anyone that signs up before 1st May will have the seventy five pounds installation fee waived.

Eclipse doubles data usage limits for home and business broadband

March 17th, 2010 by Rob Webber

It has been announced by Eclipse Internet that it has decided to double the data usage limits on both its home and business broadband packages, giving users even greater freedom.

For heavier users of the Internet and for business users having data usage restrictions in place can be a problem, as it means that if they are not careful, and if the data usage limit is relatively low, they could exceed the limit and this could end up costing them or could interfere with their broadband service. However, this is something that may no longer be an issue for home and business users of Eclipse Internet.

Fibre based broadband services being launched by Eclipse

February 22nd, 2010 by Richard Patterson

Business broadband provider Eclipse has announced the launch of fibre based higher speed broadband for businesses, which could offer speeds of up to 40Mbps.

For businesses in the UK being able to access higher speed broadband services can be vital to aid the day to day smooth operation of the business, but due to the lack of high speed broadband access within the UK many businesses have had to suffer broadband with slow speeds, which can have a really negative effect on the success and profits of the company.
